High Prairie, Alberta – The HPSD Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, September 21st to hold their regularly scheduled meeting. Trustees discussed the upcoming PSBA Fall General Meeting and reviewed a policy proposal from PSBA. They then reviewed the Report to the Board format which schools use to develop their annual presentations.
The Board approved the offering of Violence Threat Risk Assessment training (VTRA) for Division employees in 2017 and 2018. The Division is pursuing grant opportunities to cover the cost of the training; Trustees approved the purchase of the training in the event the grant application is unsuccessful.
The Board received the Superintendent’s Report and the Finance Report. Trustees discussed the Success Coaches and their community-based role within the Division.
The Board then received a presentation from the Inclusive Education Coordinators, Brennan McDonald and Michelle Downing, Divisional Psychologist Colin Collett, and Psychometrician Douglas Nechio. They discussed their 4 goals for the year which are to solidify the evolving LST role in the school, establish Teacher capacity for inclusive education in the classroom, coordinate and collaborate on resources for inclusive education needs within the district, and work on assessment in the schools. Psychometrician Douglas Nechio spoke to his goal of changing the culture of assessment within HPSD by producing meaningful assessment reports/recommendations, meeting children’s assessment needs based on their specific case, and using assessment results as a means to affect programming and other school-based interventions.
