High Prairie, Alberta – High Prairie School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Paula Taylor as Principal and Troy Runzer as Vice Principal of Prairie River Junior High School.

Ms. Taylor has 23 years of teaching experience and has spent the last 6 years as a Principal for Peace Wapiti School Division at their Savanna School and Eaglesham School. Prior to that, Paula has taught for Northland School Division in Gift Lake, Gold Trail District in British Columbia, Wabaseemoong Education Authority in Ontario, and several independent schools in China and South Korea.

Ms. Taylor has Master of Arts in Education from Johnson State College, a Bachelor of Physical Education from Acadia University, and a Diploma in Fitness and Nutrition from ICS.

Paula will be assuming the role from current Principal Jocelyn Heyde. Jocelyn is retiring after over 30 years in education. Mrs. Heyde has been the Principal at Prairie River Junior High School since 2016. She began as the Vice Principal at PRJHS in 2005. Prior to her employment at HPSD, Jocelyn worked for Northland School Division for 20 years teaching in the communities of Cadotte Lake, Little Buffalo, Gift Lake, and Whitefish.

Mr. Runzer Has over 16 years of experience in the classroom and has been a school administrator for over 6 years. His last teaching assignment was at Gift Lake School with Northland School Division.

Troy has his Masters of Education from the University of Alberta and both a Bachelor of Arts (honours) and a Bachelor of Teaching from Concordia University.

Troy will be assuming the role from current Vice Principal Kyle Tucker who is leaving the division to pursue his passion of teaching at the Golden Hills School Division working as a Hockey Leader running their hockey program for Grades 5-12. Mr. Tucker has been with HPSD since 2013 and has been an administrator at PRJHS since September 2017.

HPSD welcomes Ms. Taylor and Mr. Runzer to our Division. We look forward to the skill and experience you both will bring to PRJHS. Congratulations to Mr. Tucker on your exciting new career. We wish Jocelyn all the best in her retirement. Thank you, Jocelyn, for devoting a lifetime towards the education of our children.
