Regular Board Meeting Summary January 18, 2017

High Prairie, Alberta – The HPSD Board of Trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, January 20th. After reviewing the information around Naloxone kits, it was found that they are not available to school divisions at this time. The upcoming divisonal PD day was also discussed; it is taking place at E.W. Pratt on April 28th.

The annual PSBA Awards nominations are available again. Trustees have asked for nominees in the available categories. Trustees also reviewed a PSBA campaign school brochure.

A discussion was held over the current school board election boundaries and the option of extending the HPSD boundaries for parents to vote in the upcoming municipal elections this fall.

Trustees reviewed the Building Collaboration and Capacity in Education grant and the upcoming meeting with the local First Nations and Métis education personnel.

The Board approved the Three Year Capital Plan as presented.

Board Policy 5 received first and second reading and reaffirmed Board Policy 6.

Trustees received the Superintendent’s Report, the Transportation Report, the Finance Report, and the Trustee’s Report.

The Indigenous Shining Student Award nominations are due February 28th.

Trustees then received a delegation from the HPSD Divisional Psychologist, Colin Collett. Mr. Collett reviewed the data collected from the Tell Them From Me survey. He spoke to the social engagement portions of the survey and the custom questions that the division added which focused on nutrition and food security. Mr. Collett reported on the upcoming meeting for the Health Champions; Kyle Tucker and Trent Lizee would be attending the conference to represent the Division.
Trustees received the points to celebrate which include Principal Caudron’s nomination for Canada’s Outstanding Principal and Principal Owen’s nomination for Teaching Excellence as well as the upcoming Accountability Pillar Surveys, Pink shirt Day, and Christmas Card Contest winners.

Lastly, the Board moved into closed for the remainder of the meeting.
